If someone comes to me and tells me that I have done something wrong, I have done something that goes against God, and I simply reply ‘Well, I’m not perfect’ would I be right or wrong?
Yes, I’m not perfect, you’re not perfect!Even Paul called out the early churches and said ‘you’re doing this wrong, I love you, and that is why I’m letting you know’. Bad examples of Christianity cause harm to a world blinded by darkness. As the church, we must strive to pursue truth so that we can become a beacon of God’s light.
When we allow bad examples of Christianity to continue, within the body of Christ, we are allowing a tainted light to guide the world. The world heads to this light for hope, thinking they will find it. However, upon examining the light closer, the world finds themselves feeling deceived that the pretty red light district had nothing to do with Christmas. (Let that sink in for a moment.) Once upon a time, the word 'Christian' did not exist. During that time, there was a group of people that followed the teachings of Jesus Christ. They allowed those teachings to shape and mold their lives into something much different than the lives they had previously lived. Others in the communities began taking notice to this difference. Soon, they were labeling them 'Christ like', and the word 'Christian' was born. In today's society the word 'Christian' has become greatly tainted by religion. So tainted in fact, that the outside world often runs from the faith rather than to it. A few years ago, I found myself quite bitter with Christians, including myself. I knew who God was but He was so buried and tainted by religious rituals and philosophies that I had lost sight of what it meant to be a Christian. Christianity had become just another label for my life, it didn't define who I was or motivate my actions. To outsiders of the faith: I pray that God can use my life as a beacon to show you His light, His hope for tomorrow. While I strive to be Christ like, to love without boundaries, I am weak and I know at times my weaknesses will be seen. Through my weaknesses, I pray that God's love, grace, mercy, and forgiveness would be made known. To the followers of Christ: I pray that you are challenged to evaluate and mature your faith. Our faith is built around the life, love, sacrifice, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Through this we can boldly approach the throne of God and know with confidence that He has good plans for our future. We must daily seek Him out, seek out a deeper love with Him.
